Meaning
of the Burmese Pet Crest
The CREST or top of the Pet Crest shows a resplendent
peacock, Burma's national symbol. The last King of Burma considered the peacock a royal
beast. On either side of the CREST stand two huge lions called, "Clinthe." These
gaping collared lions guard the entrance to the Shwedagon Pagoda in Rangoon, Burma. They
serve as a MANTLING for the Pet Crest. The feathering surrounding the center SHIELD is
typical of Burmese ornate decorations on temples. The head study in the SHIELD portrays
the sable Burmese cat in all his elegant dignity. The STANDARDS supporting the SHIELD
depict three symbols of the Burmese heritage. Below the center SHIELD rests a Buddha in
the Shwedagon Pagoda in Rangood, Burma. At the bottom left, elephants haul precious teak
logs for their long trip down the Irrawaddy River to Rangoon. The Burmese woman is dressed
the typical costume of mountain dress and carries a famous Burmese parasol. At the bottom
right is a young Burmese beauty dancing happily on one of the festive days in front of a
typical building in Rangoon. The NAME and MOTTO of this unique breed support the
GROUND. Check the History button for more information.
