| The over-all picture which is created in the
observer's eye should be that of an aristocratic, well-balanced, symmetrical animal with
conformation indicating power, endurance, agility, and a look of intelligence and
animation. The origins of this versatile hunter are obscure. It is
believed that the main source for the breed's foundation was the German Bird dog. In the
search for an all-purpose hunting dog, early breeders continued to breed with local hounds
used by the foresters. One great, early breeder was a prince of the House of Hanover. The
breed was introduced to the United States around 1924.
The development of the German Shorthaired Pointer gave the world a
magnificent utility dog that makes the breed a favorite with sportsmen everywhere. |
