Meaning of
the Poodle Pet Crest
At the peak of the CREST, rests the fleur-de-lis honoring the Poodle as
the national Dog of France. Immediately below is the ancient symbol of the theatre as the
dog was used extensively as a trick dog delighting millions of adults and children. The
MANTLING which curves around the top of the SHIELD, represents water and frames the words,
"Chien Canne" meaning "Duck dog" in French. In the center SHIELD a
classic Poodle head is portrayed. The SUPPORTERS on either side of the Shield represent
the discipline, obedience, and reasoning powers of this versatile animal. The cushion at
the bottom of the left STANDARD symbolizes the warmth and affection of the Poodle in the
