Meaning
of the Irish Setter Pet Crest
The heraldic symbolism of the Pet Crest begins as the CREST or top of
the representation. The three flags shown are symbolic of the breed's native home. The
left flag is the Northern Flag of Ireland with the red cross of St. George of Britain. The
hand in the center recalling legends about the early conquest of Ireland with the crown
representing the British monarchy. The ancient Irish Coat-of Arms is depicted in the
center with the ancient Irish gold harp on a green field. The tri-colored flag on the
right symbolizes the melding of the island's people; green for the South and orange for

study of the breed is shown at the base of the SHIELD. The STANDARDS on either side of the
SHIELD show the Irish Setter in the field where he can endure continued work in the brush
